Ichiro fancypants

Who is Ichiro, and why do Mariners fans love him? He is the calm zen master of our outfield. He is is our most consistent hitter.

He wears fancy pants.

Current speculation is that Ichiro might leave us next year, possibly for the hated Yankees. Maybe it's time for the team to move on, and for Ichiro to join a team that might actually win something. But I hope he stays. And that he continues to talk in riddles and wear pink.

it's interesting because Shin Soo Choo told Korean reporters that Ichiro didn't seem like a team player as he didn't offer any words of advice when Choo was struggling in the Bigs with the Seattle club..Choo also mentioned that Ichiro ignored a sign to bunt at a crucial game situation...he got a hit so it worked out; although, Mr. Hargrove probably wasn't too happy about Suzuki's disobedience..Ichiro also said that he didn't believe Korea would beat Japan in the next 30 years two days before Korea beat Japan in the first round of the inaugural World Baseball Classic..and moments after Korea beat Japan in the second round of the tournament, Ichiro reportedly said it was so humiliating and claimed the day as the worst of his baseball career. Daisuke Matsuzaka said that Ichiro was a great leader for team Japan during the WBC and he would love for Ichiro to play for the Red Sox with him once his contract with Ichiro is up after 2007 season..we will have to wait and see what team he signs with following this season and whether he will play a leader or a selfish teammate for the new team; I guess you don't have to be a good guy when you can hit .320 year in and year out and make jaw-dropping catches in the outfield on any given night..

I've heard those things. I do think his move to center field last year was a big step in showing that he will do things for the team when it's needed. But I'm worried the organization hasn't matched him with significant moves that show they want to be competitive.

It's hard for me to assess Ichiro fairly because he was a big reason why I went to my first baseball game. I wanted to see this amazing player from Japan. I (and I suspect a lot of people) really associate him with the team, so it would be strange to see him gone--especially playing for another team. On the other hand, it may be time for new players to step up and draw people in.

yea..Ichiro is the first Mariner that most people will think of when asked about the team..perhaps, Felix Hernandez can live up to the hype and become the next Pedro Martinez..and start striking out 10 batters every fifth night..then, he hopefully will become the face of the M's..I hope Ichiro stays in Seattle because him coming to Boston or New York Yankees will hurt my Rays chance of reaching the seeming unreachable .500 record even harder than it is already...:)

p.s. : I had no idea that you went to your first game to see Ichiro!!
